Sator Square [Oct. 18th, 2008|02:57 pm]

My Sator Square tattoo. I got it when I was 22, my first autonomous palindromic year. It's the only four way sentence square in any language, and translates to "The sower Arepo holds the wheels at work." As graffiti it's been found as far afield as Herculaneum and London, but seems to be of Mithraic origin.

Forgive me if it's old news, but i hope you've all seen the Contrariwise blog, a collection of text tattoos. Often, they're quite lovely; maybe some of you would like to consider submitting.

I was thinking about getting A Margaret Atwood poem tattooed on the inside of my arm.

You fit into me
like a hook into an eye
A fish hook
An open eye

wondering what script would look good.

A friend of mine died, very unexpectedly on mothers day night of a brain anyerisum. It was a time bomb in her head. Never knew it was there. She went to bed with a terrible headache........ that was all. She was the eternal mother.
She left behind a husband of 25 years, a daughter who turned 8 a few weeks later, and a son 18. And many friends who loved her. I loved her.

This tattoo is in remembrence of my friend Karen Becker.
This tattoo is also for remembrence of my mind. When I lose it. When the depression monster gets me. When I find myself. Of the life we have lived doing Ren Faires for over 2 decades.

RIP Karen.

This week I went to nashville to meet up with some friends from college. We all got tattoos associated with pace (the italian flag for peace with the rainbow).

I decided to get books with the word pace and at the last minute i decided to get color. Here is my FRESH ink:

below the cut )

I also have two other tats: 1 black flash-ish turtle on my foot and then the one from my back. See below

and here's a pic of me...

help! [Jul. 23rd, 2007|02:17 pm]

OK so I have a literary tattoo on my body already that I love but I have to locate my camera so that won't be posted for a while.

my question to you is this:

my friends and are all getting together in august and we want to get tattooed together. we all went to school together, we all had our little things about ourselves that will be part of the tattoo. So, we're all into "pace" flags which is the italian flag and word for peace. Its a rainbow with the word pace on it. What I was thinking of doing is some sort of book/pace tattoo that would signfify my identity--i was the bookworm and i just got a job at a library etc.

so I was thinking of the tattoo in my usericon (with the word pace instead of the other words) but I don't know how much I want that on me.

could you guys help me come up with some sort of book themed tattoo. I might just scrape the idea and go for a drawing from shel silverstein or phantom tollbooth but I'd like to try to have a book tat.

any pics or ideas?

edit: to clarify-
-any ideas for a pace plus literary tattoo?
-images of book tattoos
-images of shel silverstein tattoos
-images of phantom tollbooth tattoos
-any other suggestions

-especially pictures/pieces of art of stacks of books/bookcases. apparently dali has one i haven't found. this one is a good example:

I joined the other night and meant to post about my text tattoo but forgot. Sorry if you're also a member of [info]ihearttattoos because I posted about this back when I got it. :)

I got my first tattoo on June 3rd. Writing has always been a hobby of mine since I was a small child. When I made the decision to get a tattoo, I went through a ton of ideas but always went back to words/text. It meant something to me for some reason. I find myself interested more in text tattoos than pictures, there seems to be more of a story behind them and the story is always what attracts me.

more rambling and a few pics :) )
